School Curriculum

We teach the English National Curriculum (ENC). The ENC is a very well established and recognised curriculum known for providing a broad and balanced, structured education that is relevant and progressive for pupils.

We offer a range of subjects at Key Stage Two (KS2), Key Stage Three (KS3) and General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE/IGCSE) Level

The English National Curriculum is not only taught in the vast majority of schools in England, but can also used by thousands of international and British schools around the world.

The Key Stages provide the baseline standards of what your child should be learning in each subject for each stage and age. They set programmes of study which our teachers then convert into lessons delivered in the virtual classroom.

Please note we don't currently offer Key Stage 1 .

The curriculum is divided into Key Stages:

  • Primary

    Key Stage 2: Years 3-6 | Ages 7-11

    Our Online primary school focuses on your child all round development with a strong, warm community and support from class teachers.

    Online learning at secondary school means quality teaching, fewer distractions and lots going on outside of the classroom.

    Key Stage 4: Years 10-11 | Ages 14-16

    Choose from our broad range of GCSEs and/or IGCSEs to study online in two years, delivered by subject specialist teachers.

  • Technology-oriented - careers and vocational learning independent and collaborative learning experience across the whole curriculum 

  • A love for learning – fostered through inclusive and and diverse experiences, friendships, memories, mentoring, enjoyment, discovery, ambitious goals and celebrations of all achievements

Measuring Performance: Your child's progress

Children are assessed during every lesson, which enables our teachers to plan the next steps for each child. Teachers assess pupils against mastery-based learning objectives and the basic skill requirements for each year group and provide feedback in a range of ways which enables each pupil to make progress within the lesson and over time. Children are expected to make good or better progress across the curriculum and this individual progress is tracked and reported to their parents/guardians at parent’s evening as well as on the end of year report.

Read Academy uses rigorous triangulated monitoring throughout the year to gauge the impact of the curriculum design. Senior and Subject Leaders monitor individual subjects: reviewing learning, evaluating pupil voice, providing individual feedback to move practice forward, celebrating development, progress and achievement and highlighting areas of developmental review that through reflection journals, workshops, professional reflection opportunities, coaching and continued professional development are tailored and strengthened.

The curriculum impact is quantified and reviewed on a half termly basis and progress is measured against year-end outcomes for each pupil, each year group and across key stages.

A cloud-based school where pupils access all their resources and lesson recordings all day, every day

Each course provides access to the entire subject curriculum; this is available to access at anytime from anywhere. All lessons are digitally recorded and once a lesson has been delivered, pupils can review the lesson recording. Subject materials can help pupils track down exactly what they need. It is a fantastic resource to support pupils to consolidate their learning, master tricky concepts and prepare for examinations.

If for any reason a pupil has missed a lesson (i.e. sickness) they can watch the entire lesson via this digital archive.
